We are using 1/4″ Thick Structural Steel Plate to make a portable griddle!
The cooking surface of the griddle is made with 1/4″ thick steel plate. We weld 2″x2″x1/8″ angle iron around the edges, then weld on 2 handles made from 1/2″ rebar! Our griddle sits right on top of the existing grill slats in your grill. No need for any modification!
The angle around the sides of the griddle allow for large quantities of food to be mixed and stirred with no worry of anything falling off into the burners. As shown in the included pictures, a wide variety of food can be prepared on a single cooking surface! The most popular model we make has an open front, but we also can make the front closed if you like.
Let us know the rough dimensions of your grill cooking surface and we will take care of the rest!
Treat the griddle exactly like you would a cast iron frying pan, and you will have years and years of cooking pleasure!
Does Thickness Matter? YES! But it can be confusing because a lot of ads say “heavy duty,” “thick,” or “very durable,” but those are just words. Some ads will tell you it is a particular gauge, but if you are like us, these approaches make us feel like a goat looking at a watch – – pretty confused! So in this listing we use 1/4″ thick metal plate. Let’s put that in a list of thicknesses using common coins:
1/4″ = .250″ = 3 Gauge = Thicker than Two Quarters AND Two Dimes, all four stacked on top of each other! That is 500% thicker than a lot of signs out there!
1/8″ = .125″ = 11 Gauge = Thicker than a Quarter and a Dime Stacked on Top of Each Other (2.4% Thicker). It is 250% thicker than 18 Gauge and 60% thicker than 14 Gauge.
5/64″ = .078″ = 14 Gauge = Barely Thicker than a Nickel (1.6% thicker).
1/20″ = .05″ = 18 Gauge = Almost as Thick as a Dime (it is 6% short)
