My wife is a University of Illinois Alum and her Nephew just graduated, so I thought I would design a Chief to honor The Chief and all other Chief’s out there. May they always be respected and never forgotten!! (We are not affiliated with any University and do not use any school’s design – – sorry we will not make/ship one with trademarked art.) As shown it is the 15.5″ size and in unfinished steel, but we offer it larger too or powder coated black..
This artwork looks great inside or out. Because it’s made from 1/8″ thick structural steel plate, it is built to last and withstand the elements.
Leave it bare, have us powder coat it black, or paint it yourself. If you paint it, we recommend Rustolium Painter’s Touch (available at Home Depot/Lowes/Menards/Ace Hardware. It is an all in one primer/paint which sprays easily and covers well. For the Chief, you can go with clear, flat black or Rustic Orange Satin for a great color which really pops!
Another option is to use backlighting like customers have done as show in our photos.
Does Thickness Matter? YES! But it can be confusing because a lot of ads say “heavy duty,” “thick,” or “very durable,” but those are just words. Some ads will tell you it is a particular gauge, but if you are like us, these approaches make us feel like a goat looking at a watch – – pretty confused! So, in this listing we use 1/8″ thick metal. Let’s put that in a list of thicknesses using common coins:
1/8″ = .125″ = 11 Gauge = Thicker than a Quarter and a Dime Stacked on Top of Each Other (2.4% Thicker). It is 250% thicker than 18 Gauge and 60% thicker than 14 Gauge.
5/64″ = .078″ = 14 Gauge = Barely Thicker than a Nickel (1.6% thicker).
1/20″ = .05″ = 18 Gauge = Almost as Thick as a Dime (it is 6% short)
